How much red meat is recommended in a healthy diet?
The Australian Dietary Guidelines recommend 65g cooked lean red meat per day, or 455g per week (equivalent to 650g raw weight per week).
Red meat includes unprocessed beef, lamb, veal, pork, goat, kangaroo and game meats. It does not include processed meat products such as sausages (unless lean and reduced sodium), ham, bacon, salami or commercial products such as hamburgers.
An average serving (150g raw weight) consumed 3-4 times a week is consistent with how red meat is typically consumed and in line with recommended amounts.
